1250 PTO Problems
I would appreciate some help. I am working 15 hours away from home and the wife reports the mower deck belt broke. 1250 Hydrostatic with (I assume) electric PTO as I have a PTO switch on dash. She replaced the belt and no joy. Asked her to follow the PTO wire and she reports one black female dangling off frame, one wire, no connector coming out of the PTO. Hmmmmm.
Simple as getting my Son to solder the wires together for now? What was the original routing of the wires? Stress level pretty high at home and I am trying to reduce it somehow. I hate being helpless. Actually, I was thinking I should just have him jump the bare wire coming from behind the PTO and it is snaps shut, wire re connection and safe routing is the best thing they can do to get the machine back on grass duty. Thanks in advance! Jud in Ohio, Cub Cadet in NH. Manual in front of me. |

From the pto switch there is a wire that runs down along the left side of the tower and along side the engine before it connects to the PTO. It looks like this. Do you have this wire?

There is another wire that comes out of the pto and connects to the previous wire. Do you have that one?

NOTHING to solder.
Simply cut back the insulation on both wires, to bare the copper. Put the two wires together with a "wire nut". It will work until further or better repairs can be made.

Yup, That will do it so long as ya have the space and the wire is not cut to short. Good call!

Sorry to hijack the thread. It seemed in the same neighborhood when I searched on PTO.
By jumping...I only meant for them to do this as a diagnostic to see if the clutch was working. There is about 2" of wire coming from behind the PTO. The other end, still has its original connector. I will advise them to reconnect via some method which may be splice and wire nuts or solder. Thank you for confirming there is just one wire that needs to be connected. JD in OH |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
