Well it’s been a while since I updated this, but I got it all back together. and wired up. Ended up putting the engine in a different 682 roller I picked up earlier this year for $125.
Basically ended up building a whole new engine out of parts. The engine I picked up had been blown up and cobbled together out of parts from a KT-17 Series 1 (camshaft and half the crankcase at least), a M18 and I don’t even want to know what else. Got a new crankcase, jugs machined, a good crank, new rods, pistons, rings and replaced the valves. Everything measured in spec and went back together great. It turned out really great, and it’s currently my favorite tractor to mow with. Just purrs like a kitten and has tons of power to spare spinning a 44c.

Yup. Mills fleet farm. Something like 60 or 70 bucks? I don't like it as much as the IH one I have on the 782, but it's not bad.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
