KT17 Electronic Ignition with M18 parts
I just was given two cubs one is a 1979 Red 682 with KT17 Series 2 totally complete less mower deck. The other is a 1986 1810 w/M18 with deck, but missing the intake and carb. Want to know if it is possible to pull all the parts from the M18 ignition/wire harness and mount on the 682 KT17? I should probably get both going maybe first and see which engine is the best out of the two and use it for the Red one that will be fixed up. Thanks all, Patrick

Here is my suggestion. Take the intake manifold & carb off the K-17 and install it them on the M-18.

Once I get the KT17 running I will do that. The 18 has been sitting without the intake on it and one spark plug out for about 10 years behind a shed so condition could be questionable but it does turn over and seems to have compression. Just wanted to know my options if the 18 is no good.

I doubt that you can convert a KT-17 for Magneto ignition. The flywheel is different and the Mag Ignition Coil, I don't think has the Mounting Bosses on the crankcase wall.

Be advised that moving the “ electronic” coil and ignition wiring is only a small bit of the task. The right side cylinder head is drilled and tapped to accept the coil and bracket as well as flywheels needing to be swapped out too. Some may argue with me but if the 682 coil is still good go with that. It has been my experience that the old oil filled ones throw a beefier spark anyway. Good luck

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
