Original Cub Engine Mounts
I am restoring my 61. When I pulled the engine of the frame there was spacers under each bolt. I checked the parts book and did not see any listed. Nothing in the service manual that I could see. Any one see this before. Thanks.

I looked through both my TC-82 and TC-113 parts catalogs and I did not find that either. I am going to say a PO modification.

Maybe the oil pan is not flat on the bottom.

Maybe someone decided that shims would give better drive line alignment.

Maybe the pan was milled at one point? Or the mounting frame replaced and lowered a bit?

This seems likely, but rather pointless considering you just loosen 2 bolts, and then get some pry bar action

Or maybe the frame floor is bent.

Thanks for the input. I checked the frame and it is flat and true. Oil pan does not seem to be modified. I install the engine without shims. New belt and adjusted properly!

All done! My 61 Original. I installed the engine with out the shims. Belt runs true.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
