I don't know if it's an age thing or a regional thing, but I had to Google "neckers" knob, although I had a good idea a "suicide" knob was what was being talked about by the context. Oh well, I guess I can't say much as I am among the very small subsection of the population that grew up calling a water fountain a "bubbler."

Anyway, my one-armed brother has "spinners" on all his Cub Cadets. The steering wheel is actually an important tool for him, as it is perfect to hold with a knee when operating other controls with his hand.

The original question on this thread was more about could it be done than should it. I think it would be quite simple to control the regular power steering cylinder and linkage setup with a standard hydraulic control valve if one wanted to. It wouldn't really even need to be a joystick as the joystick is used for more than 2 control inputs and all you need is 2.

The OP was asking about using an actuator to control the steering. If he was talking about a 12vdc linear actuator, it would be easy peezee.
Anchor the right actuator near the foot rest to the frame and the other end to the pitman arm.
Then any momentary on-off-on toggle switch. Which could be a conventional toggle switch or a joystick.

If the tractor is already equipped with a hyd. cyl doing the work, Seems like a conventional valve could be used.
I bet a crafty person could mount the valve so that when you turn the steering wheel to 11am and 1pm, it activates the valve.

Recue11 did this mod on his 1450, but it would work on any Hydro cub. I can say it works just as well as the PS on my super, has an even better turning radius. Here id the post and a video of it.
