Angry #26 Carb

I've been given a #26 carb thats been sitting outside for sometime and it's all locked up. Throttle shaft was broken and the mixture screws were extremely tight to remove.
I have 2 questions,what thread size is the Idle mixture screw,and any ideas on how to remove the piece of throttle shaft that is stuck in the lower part of the bore of the carb,about1/4 inch sticking out.
I've soaked for 3 days in Kroil but it won't budge.
Any ideas?

Well.......I never had to do what you are describing.

These are some thoughts of mine....
* Try soaking in PB Blaster
* Try soaking in a Carb Cleaner Solution
* You may have to resort to some sort of acid (ie: The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Lime Away, etc)
* Maybe some heat... although you have to be real careful of the aluminum.

Maybe other can chime in some ideas.

Default #26 Carb

Well I soaked it in Kroil for 3 days to no avail. There was just enough of the shaft sticking into the throat to get a needle nose plier on, but it still wouldn't budge. Tried heat next, and no progress. Finally I measured back from the mounting face of the carb to the centerline of the broken shaft. Then flipped the carb over and measured back the same length on the float side. It was right in the middle of a casting boss. Marked the center,drilled a 1/8 hole through the Die Casting until I hit the broken shaft and drove out the broken piece with a 1/16 punch.I've got a welder friend who is going to weld up the hole I drilled. We'll see what happens.

Default Get a different one

You may be in over your head on this one. If it is as bad as it sounds you may be better off getting another used carb. I have had some that I could not bring back to life. Keep in mind the small passages and how corrosion will affect metal. I have had to walk away from a few projects before I sank $$$ into a bottomless pit. Good luck

Thanks,Mlamar. I haven't gotten that far yet. Just have it all torn apart. I guess thats a decision I'm going to have to make.

Default # 26 Carb

I've got a question for all of you Kohler experts. Looking at the choke end of the carb,there is a 3/32 hole at the bottom of the bore set back about 1/4 of an inch. Is this a vent for the main needle and seat?
