Rear wheel width, option?

The IH manual says my 147 was standard with 8.50-12 rear tires, however, when I acquired mine it has 10.5-12 rear tires. Were those an option? Or did a PO install them at some point? (makes no difference really, I don't plan on changing them back, just curious)

Just about every 147 I owned had the 10.50 tires installed, I do believe it was standard equipment .

Did the optional 10.5's on the 8.5 wide rims force the use of a 48" deck?
Or will the 42" deck gauge wheels still clear the optional tires and rims?

23x8.50-12 were Standard Equipment Rear Tires. 23x10.50-12 were Optional, per the IH Cadet Cadet Data Sheet.

I understand that part.

Did the optional wider tires negate the use of the 42" deck and require use of the 48" deck so that the gauge wheels would clear?

You can use a 42" deck with gauge wheels on a narrow frame.
