Default Montgomery Ward Hoe-Trac

Thought I would share a few photos of my non Cub garden tractor. I decoded the engine SN and thought is was a 52 or so. It's called a Montgomery Ward Hoe-Trac. Made by Simplicity. I'm keeping an eye out for a Plow-Trac close by. I'm sure my wife will love it. As you can see i'm in the process of making it electric. I have 2 100ft extension cords. So it currently has a 200ft all electric range. Figuring out exactly what to do with it. Gonna try to plant some sweet corn this spring. It has a sleeve hitch, thinking about getting a brinley cultivator and then I can walk right down the rows. Guess I could set a generator on top of the cultivator. Or go back to gasoline. So much easier to control with electric. Off is off. No slack belt running on a spinning pulley to run away.

Any comments or suggestions or questions are welcome and appreciated.

I did repower it with Harbor Freight. Then I repowered again with electric.

I went with the 6hp as it was cheaper than the 3hp. Also the 3hp had a different bolt pattern on the bottom. I would have had to drill new holes. As it was I lifted it with spacers anyway. The new motor had interference on the back side. I even placed the free light on the gas tank for an impromptu headlight. Just barely enough steel in the gas tank to keep the magnet sticking. I have small kids, with electric the motor stops as opposed to loosing a belt that could catch and walk away on you.

Both wheels have a ratchet mechanism inside the hub. When they both lock up it will pull you away.

I actually have considered hooking my yard cart to the back side and placing my 4kw generator in the cart and running an extension cord. Got another motor all wired up with a SPST and DPDT switches for on/off and direction control. See photo of my little test bed motor. It really works well.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
