You may have a ground issue. I believe there are green ground wires attached to the battery support frame and also on the right side of the engine support by the fuel pump. I have seen the entire battery support frame loose its ground as it uses the same 4 grill retaining bolts for it. There are several electrical items grounded to it also. I usually run a brand new ground wire from the engine to the battery support to cure. Be sure to scrape the powder coat paint off where you attach the ground and also check those ground wires for a good connection behind the terminals as they have used star washers for making the ground! Also check the plug in on the clutch for a good connection.

Would any of these grounding issues explain why the lights come on when I turn on the pto switch. At this point, the pto doesn’t even try to come on. Just dim flickering headlights.

When I first got my 1572, I had pto trouble like you have minus the headlight problems. Traced it down the the rear pto jumper plug. It was corroded down inside and would drop enough voltage for the pto to turn off.

Gentlemen!!
I sincerely apologize for not getting back on here to close the loop. It ended up my front pto clutch was shot and that was the culprit. The flickering headlights was a ground issue and was an easy fix. Thanks to all who responded!! The information that everyone volunteered, was a great help!! Again, Thanks to Everyone!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
