I think either will work, but I usually use the "fat" one. it's much wider at the rockshaft and tapers somewhat towards the end. The other one is the same width throughout. You may need a new switch as well. They last a long time, but not forever.

Thanks! I did order the thick one as well as a new switch. The old switch was pretty weathered.

Default Updare

Just an update. Had all the tin and frame sandblasted along with some smaller parts. Hopefully will be done with most of it tomorrow. May try doing some painting tomorrow if the weather is good.

That looks great! Beats the heck out of sanding and wire brushing!

Default Tips on painting.

What kind of primer are you guys using? I went into our Case-IH dealer to check on getting some federal yellow. They want $72 for 6 cans of spray paint. Our dealership here is terrible. Where are you guys getting your yellow paint from? Do the rattle cans have hardner in them?

Well, I haven't been able to do a whole lot lately. It's been too cold and windy to paint. I did locate the tiller that was with this machine. The lady I got it from told me to just take it. It had been in her yard for a long time. Everything is on the tiller except the gear box. I swear I saw it around here but for the life of me I can't find it. I also stripped down the mower deck and the deck is shot. All rusted through. The serial number is 501U1111. I need to locate a deck once I look at the spindles to make sure they're still good. I also built an aframe to help install the engine and move around the rear end. I still need to put caster wheels on it.

Default Update

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Farming season has started and I haven’t had much time to work on the 1650. I found the gear box for the tiller. Those things aren’t cheap! I also took the hydro pump off the resend so I can start cleaning it up to paint. That’s as far as I’ve made it.

IMO those decks had the worst design- grass gets stuck in between the mower and the belt shield and just rusts them out.

Yeah, I need to find a shell but live out west were there aren’t any cub cadets. I’ve been watching eBay but haven’t come across a 50” deck yet. I stripped that deck down and everything seems to be ok except the shell itself.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
