Default 1325 Engine Issue

I have an 1325 (CV12.5) that has been in decent running condition for many years. For the past few years, the choke cable has been very stiff so I decided to finally replace it. Long story short, I also replaced the throttle cable at the same time. Now comes the problem, I neglected to take a photo of how the cables were attached to the engine and now, every combination, except no cables, does not work. I have service manual that is for CV11-16/CV400-465/CV490-495 and have referenced the following diagram:

In this configuration, I can usually get it started with the throttle and choke on 1/2. It I move the throttle to full on, it dies, same if I move the choke to off. No "normal" setting works as expected. Yet, if i remove the cables and manually set things to what I believe they should be it starts and then seems to work the reverse of what it should. Throttle, star piece cats like the choke.

I am at my wits end with this and of course I am patently adverse to admitting defeat and taking it to the shop.

Thank you in advance,
Rob

Without seeing anything, I'm going to hazard a guess....A lot of time people don't properly secure the sheathing of the cables. Sometimes at one end or at both ends of the cable. Not securing the sheathing, the cables don't work as they should.

While not trying to start it, when you operate the controls for the choke and
throttle. Is it doing what it is supposed to on the engine end. Closing and
opening choke as it should, same for the throttle? Are the cables free and
working as they should?

So I got a response on another site that the diagram that I have is incorrect. I have reversed the cables and it functions more "properly". First problem is that the throttle is reversed, all the way forward is "slow" and all the way down is fast. Second problem is that it runs for a bit, 10-20 minutes, and then starts to die. Seems like it is struggling to get fuel. I can monkey with the throttle and choke to keep it running but ultimately it dies. It will start and run for the 10-20 minutes again if I let it sit. I did change the fuel filter if that matters. I think I got the correct one but an not sure since there is another number that is different than the one I installed. The descriptions appear to be the same.

Reverse the direction (180°) in the direction of the way the cable mounts to Carb.

You are correct. It is a Fuel Delivery or Venting issue.

The cable isn't long enough for me to reverse it. At least what I think you mean by reverse it.

I am not that concerned about the reverse throttle but it dying is obviously an issue. Tonight I replaced the breather tube that was cracked to the point that it had a hole in it. It appears to run better but it was too dark to take it for a test run. Will do that in the morning.

No joy after replacing the breather tube.

Any ideas?

It ran at idle for 5 minutes and then stopped with plenty of gas in the tank

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
