Default 1320 Hydro Fan question
Hello all,

I am repairing a 1320 tractor that was my grandfathers. Performed the normal maintenance, installed a new battery and overall it is in great shape with low hours. The down side is it had a leaky hydro unit and I am not sure how long it has been that way. I cleaned off the transmission (years of crud build-up) and found it was leaking between the hydro unit and the transmission. Pulled the unit and actually found it was missing a seal. Replaced the two coupler seals on the hyrdo side and bolted it back up. Waiting on a new reservoir cup as the current one is missing the lid. Also installed a new drive belt.

While I have it apart, I noticed the fan is not tight. The bolt and washers are holding it in place, but I can freely spin the blades without moving the pulley. After reviewing the manuals, I cannot find if that is the way it should be and with pulley speed the friction will spin it, or if that top bolt should be tightened securely on the fan.

Any help would be appreciated!

Well on another note, my parts are arriving today so I can fire it up again tonight! Ordered a new reservoir cup as my cap was missing and a few little odds and ends.

Remember the 1320 machines well (very decent built lawn mowers--just not designed for much else), just don't recall my dad ever working on the hydro on one--guess that is a good thing. Try looking up a parts diagram to figure out what is going on with the fan. You should be able to get to them on Cadet's website (last I checked). Always a good idea to keep the fan working properly on any hydro machine.

Thanks John! Looks like it may be as simple as missing a washer. However I just dropped it off at the local Cub dealer today. I got the hyrdo pump sealed back up, new drive belt, etc. Deck was making some noise (or a pulley above it) and I figured it couldn't hurt to have the dealer look everything over.

Will let you guys know how it went. It still runs great and is in really good shape even though my father lent it out to a neighbor who wasnt easy on it.
