I wonder is there is any internal damage to the steering column, that will show up when you use it...

The splash of fuel in the tank is probably from the factory running it for a minute or two. It can ship that way with a small amount of fuel. The DOT considers it "limited qty"

Just got off the phone with them, had about a 30 minute wait but once I got ahold of someone they were extremely polite! Answered my questions, yes they do a quality check and the fuel was most likely left over from that. The missing bolts actually aren’t missing! That seat bracket fits a few models, he said that’s more of a bolt to hold it down but clips hold the actual seat in place and the holes were there for other models. As for the steering wheel they apologized about the damage and immediately put an order in for me to receive a new one for free. Didn’t have to submit a picture or anything like that. I’ve heard bad things about their customer service but it was top notch for me! Can’t wait to use it now!

I had a similar, yet different situation. In 2008, I was looking for a commercial zero turn cub cadet. The Tractor Supply Co. store I was at said they would have to order one and it would take about 2 months since they were quite popular and it was in the spring time. As I looked around, I saw two crates to the side of their store and one of them had a commercial zero turn in it, but the crate had been damaged in shipping. They said that they would sell it to me for 50% off with the 1 year manufacturer's warranty still intact and the 5 year frame and deck warranty intact. The guy working there estimated that he would fix it for me for $300, with parts being about $75 of that cost and deliver it to me in 2 weeks when he had it fixed. He had to replace the plastic shroud over the engine and plastic cover for the air cleaner and fix the wiring harness. I agreed to NOT have the seat fixed (one of the armrest had been ripped out of the plastic holes of the seat rest). So, I saved $2400 off the mower overall. I have mowed with it since 2008 and the only issues I have ever had is the seat switch, replaced 1 drive belt, and the PTO was replaced. The engine has been overhauled on it, but that was a due to a mechanic's misdiagnosis of him saying the valves needed ground down when it was only the seat switch.
It sounds like they treated you right and are willing to stand by their product. I hope you have many years of great service from your new cub! Cub Cadet 123

MTD had the easiest best warranty system of any brand.
Stihl is next in that line. B&S and generac refuse more claims than they except. Honda is a pain in the ass too Cc123 I can't imagine why they'd sell it to you at a discount, they'd get warranty parts and labor, unless they aren't factory authorized service? Like lowes
