Default 2012 LTX 1042-KW - Good Deal?

I have an opportunity to purchase a 2012 CC LTX1042-KW Kawasaki motor with 52 hours, w/mulching kit on it for $1100. It appears to be in very good shape. The amount of property to be mowed is about 3/4 of an acre with some sloped surfaces but nothing major. Use will be primarily for mowing.

A few questions...

- Does this appear to be a good deal?
- Tractor was purchased 8/2013...so there should be another year on the warranty. Is it correct to assume the warranty is transferable given sales receipt which is available?
- What are the important things to watch out for?

Thanks,
-Mike-

Welcome to Only Cub Cadets.

It really kinda depends on you. If you aren't handy with tools and stuff and are just wanting a grass cutting machine, then it might be alright.

I would try to find out why it's being sold. If the owners are "downsizing" or have bought a new place that needs a bigger tractor then it could be a decent machine.

That type of machine is literally a "throw away" tractor, when any major component wears out or breaks, then it normally is not cost effective to repair.

I bet that there are members here who would be willing to sell you a REAL garden tractor (in good condition) that could be rebuilt from one end to the other (when something wears out) rather than thrown away, for a considerable amount less than $1100.00.

The tractors that many of us here deal with, have been in service for as much as 54 years and most of us fully intend to keep them running strong for the rest of our lives.

If you don't think that owning, operating and tinkering with an old garden tractor would be cool, then a newer lawn tractor is probably the right thing for you.

But if you are a little handy with tools, want the most for your money and don't mind getting your hands dirty once in awhile, then you may want to consider an old Cub Cadet garden tractor... It really could be the last tractor that you ever have to buy.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
