Later that week....many parts ordered

Steignartz shipped flex disc joint, hydro filter and hydro fan tossed in an overstuffed box.

Guess which item arrived broken?

Hydro fan

I swear I'm gonna steal the metal one off my 147 and put it on my 107 so I don't have to deal with the plastic breaking... one it's got now, I started with 3 fins, and now I have 1!!!

You win!

The box looked ridiculous before I even opened it. It's a shame .

I replaced the one in my 782D last year, and it's definitely something to be really careful of, especially as they get older and more brittle.

Now...can I get this all back together without breaking the new one (once it arrives)....hmmmm

My best attempt would be, when putting it back together, to attach the flex disc joint to the coupler on the transmission, then bolt the transmission onto the tractor. Then, once the trans is secure, take the complete driveshaft and bolt it onto the flex disc under the tunnel cover. Bit tricky to reach in there but I was able to remove a driveshaft in the same fashion.

The last 2 times I've split and then reassembled my 107 I've bolted the driveshaft to the transmission and then tried mounting the whole thing, it works but I've broken 2 fins doing it so next time my method is gonna be adjusted to as described above...

Well, let's see.

Ive got a new hydro filter, a new fan on the way, the O ring for the brake puck, a new flex disc joint, a driveshaft and wiring harness on the way, and the follower and bearings arrived today for the Ross box rebuild.

I'm trying to remember that I started this as a simple engine swap.

Oh, and I need to weld some keystock on that part on the hydro arm that always wears out, before the spring and the end pieces completely wear through the outside material .

THEN I can start putting this back together....and replace the engine.

Can I ask, what is wrong with the engine exactly? I don't remember you explaining that

That's a fair point. I can sum it up by saying : It's worn out... while it performs its dual functions of mower + insect fogger pretty well, it's getting to the point that I can't make it through a mowing session without running low on oil. Granted , I have a pretty good sized lawn.

Like a Kohler should , it starts and runs like a champ. It's just tired and since I have a few extra engines, it seemed a simple task to just swap this one out.

Fair point- I was unaware that it had a dual-purpose engine/insect fogger

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
