Default XT1-42 questions

After 18 years of faithful (even though in retrospect abused) service the JD 110 quit. The transaxle a K46 failed. I bought a surplus K57 but had to reverse the motor mount and basically failed. Now I needed another machine as grass was getting tall. Looked at JD and came to the conclusion that green paint must have gold in it as it was very expensive. Did more research, was really interested in at least a k 46 transaxle in a machine in my price range. Did some research, went to the cub cadet site and the specs had an xt1 had a k 46. Great. Tried to find one locally, could not. Found one at Home Depot about 60 miles away. They delivered it no charge. But looking at the tag it had a TL200 trans. But it had a Kohler engine, not the Chinese made. Felt good about the engine, a little upset about the tranny. Questions:
Did CC change the tranny and engine between 2020 and 2021?
How good/bad is the TL200
I've heard that an oil change at 50 hrs with 5/50 synthetic is the way to keep a k 46 going strong, same with TL200

I LOVE it. seat is great, turning radius is unbelievable, Can't figure out the cruise control though.

Tractor Data dot com is a good goto website for many of the older garden tractors. Consider yourself lucky that TD has some information on newer lawn tractors. Compare the two links and you'll note the differences in transmissions. It seems there was a transmission and a engine change from 2015-2019 model years to 2020-2021 model years.

As for engines in 2015-2019 models: http://www.kohlerengines.com/engines...ourage%20SV541

And engines in 2020-2022 models: https://kohlerpower.com/en/engines/product/ks540

I Google the engines from the Tractor Data site in reponse to your other post about which engine has EFI...I'm seeing very little about whether the engines are carburated or fuel injected however I may have missed that in a quick glance thru the links.

CC is putting whatever parts they can get on them now.

For the first 6 years of the XT1 the "base" was always Kohler command* series, 1 lunger and a Tuff Torq K46. Then 2020 brought the dial-throttle China motor -- this year is just whatever. Getting 2022 models in now, but haven't looked into the 42 yet.

Edit: cruise is easy, push right foot to approximate speed, pull up toggle in middle to lock in. There are only like 6 positions.

When i worked for the farm store i think we had 6 different xt1 models with different engine, trans and deck combos.
I never did understand why they didn't have a more clear way to identify them. Only way to know for sure what you have is look under the seat at the actual model number.

Yes, I've always been able to special order the Kawi, but often just stock an XT2 42 Kohler (twin 7000 series vs the one lung command) and sell that instead.

Thank you everybody. Enlightens me. Guess I should be glad it has a Kohler engine.

Anyway, when the K 57 gets out of the shop I think I'll put it on it. The toughest XT1 42 in town. (If it fits)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
