Cub Cadet 1450 Cork seal Replacement
I will be doing the cork seal on my 78 Cub Cadet 1450. I am newer to this and want to ask everyone on here if there is anything to look out for when doing this or anything specific I need to do.
Thanks in advance, Kirby

Welcome aboard Kirby,
Not been inside a 1450 but imagine some general things apply. First thing I do is make sure you have a camera and take all kinds of pictures from all kinds of angles. I find that even simple pictures come in handy. Take special note of everything you unhook, especially linkages and such. No one here knows what your skill level is so feel free to ask away and don't worry about it when someone states what is obvious to you. Is the only thing you are going to do is the the cork gasket? Do you have other leaks and issues in the back end you are planning on working on while things are apart? Let us know. Ken |

Make sure it is really the cork gasket, and not the expansion plug under it, or something higher up leaking, been a few people that replaced it needlessly.
If it is really the cork gasket, just disconnect the necessary things and roll the rear assembly out on a floor jack. Then tip it up on, so it is setting on the rear cover (wood blocks work nice) remove the attaching bolts, then the hydro assy lifts off. Clean things, replace the gasket and reverse the order of dissambly. You will loose a bit of oil out of the hydro when you lift it off the differential casting, but if you quickly do that, and set it up, the leakage will be minimial. First time it might take 1/2 a day, second time maybe an hour. |

You might want to cover the vent hole with a piece of tape, sometimes the oil will seep thru the vent.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
