So a manual and a hydro would have needed different frames had they stuck with that? (I guess the stick is pretty far back on newer manuals).

Once they switched to the tall tunnel frame on the narrow frames after the 70/100 they are both almost the same.The 71,72 and 73 have low tunnel frames so if you wanted to remove the shifter cover you would have to split the tractor. Not so on the the tall ones. Are you confusing the seat pan as a tunnel cover?

I am not, but I don't have any manual cubs for reference.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
