Default Disc: Drag or Sleeve Mount?

New here and new to tractors. I just bought a 1973 CC 149 (with hydraulic lift) that I intend to use on a one acre food plot. No rocks and few roots, mix of clay and light soil.

I'm also in the process of rebuilding/moding an old set of drag discs. For a few years I've been pulling a four foot section of the disc behind a quad, with fair results. I say fair, becauses sometimes there's too much penetration and sometimes not enough.

Since I'm going to be building a frame for the disc anyway, I can either build a tandem drag or a single row for a sleeve hitch. I'm thinking the sleeve hitch set up would allow me to use the tractor's weight to advantage? What would be the advice from those that have used either or both? If I go tandem, then I would still pull it with the quad to speed things up.

I also have a IH #2 tiller with the tractor, but the mule drive, gearbox and mounting bracket are missing. I'd like to find the tiller mounting bracket, but likely won't be using the belt drive system. I'd also be thankful if someone that has that bracket could give me the dimensions so I could fab one. I have to build a sleeve hitch also.

Since I have no intention of ever using the PTO for belt drive, that will be getting a hydraulic pump for a dedicated system, which will also drive the tiller, much like the case 446.

A ton of Cub knowledge pooled right here on this site and I hope to mine some and hopefully contribute some.

Thanks!
Rod.

I like the idea, that one could pick the disk up with the hydraulic lift, to transport it to the area of tillage.

I'd really like to get the dimensions for the bracket #1 in the pic so I can mount the tiller. Height and hole spacing seems to be fairly critical for the bar mounts. I can use the diff cover as a template to bolt the brackett to the diff housing.

Or if someone has one?

My 1711 has an (at least somewhat) homemade one. PM me for details.

Farmall450, thanks for the offer. Ole'George sent me the dimensions and it is on there and doing duty. I also built the sleeve hitch and adapted a single row disc to fit the sleeve hitch. The tiller got a fourteen horse motor mounted to it and it also mounts on that bracket.

I had a ton of pics but about a month ago I accidently permanently deleted several years of pics. I have to buy a program to try and recover them.

It might be easier just to re-take them. Inquiring minds!

The disc is under two feet of snow out in a bush plot. I have one on my phone but it won't upload. Seems to me I have to email it to myself then resize to post. I drowned my camera on a river crossing in the fall, so the phone is all I've got right now. But if you search my name on the site there are tons of pics of all the work/builds that I did on the 149.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
