Default Kohler KT18

I have a Snapper 2000GX lawn tractor that I bought because it had a good running,no smoke Kohler KT18.
.
Since this was made 1992-1998,would this be a series II with fully pressurised lubrication? It does,of course have a spin on oil filter and "oil sentry protection".

Would it be the same configuration that some later CCC Cub Cadets used?

What CCC Cub Cadets would have used this engine?

While I do not have a Cub Cadet that this would fit,I got it because I think they may be hard to find and I might pass it on to a CCC owner who might need it.

I am familiar with the older K series singles,but not with the KT's, so,,

I would like to get some thoughts and opinions.

Do you think someone might need an engine like this?

In the Kohler KT series engines, they made a KT-17 and a KT-19. I never heard of a KT-18.



Now in the Kohler M Series engines, they made a M-18 and a M-20. The M series was basically a KT series engine with Magneto Ignition.

This is based on the 17 to 20 HP range.

I should do more research. Tractor data.com says it is a 18hp, I just assumed it was a KT,,,,,,,,I should see whether or not it has an ignition coil or a magneto.

It sounds like a M18. Remote oil filter, oil sentry/trouble light on dash?

That's what my 1811 says. The tag is above the fuel pump on the driver side of the engine.

Please excuse my ignorance, and thank you for the education.
I did not find an ignition coil. The spark plug wires go into the blower housing, so it looks like a magneto ignition. So, that would make it a Magnum 18.
Well that is good news.
So, all my questions still apply, I just ignorantly mis-identified the engine.

Also I noticed the cylinders seem to be cast iron,because they have slight signs of rust.

Probably none. Each OEM would go to Kohler and request "their" specifications and Kohler would build to their liking. Kohler would assign a Specification number according to the build, ie: M18-24500. There could be some overlapping features between two different OEM's.

I do understand the different specs for different brands. Such as different crankshaft end diameter and length.

Cub Cadet used the 18HP Kohler M18-24506.

The Snapper used the 18HP Kohler M18-24597.

There is going to be some differences.

Tim, on your engine, it looks like the pto end of the crank is longer than the M18's used in the Cub Cadet 18xx series. Probably not that big of an issue if a spacer is used.

Here is the Kohler crank reference manual. Look on page 3.9.

The Cub Cadet version uses 52-014-66-S
The Snapper uses 52-014-63-S
