The word "NEED" is the operative word. Several of us have lots of cubs that we don't really "NEED", but we like to have them. I have twenty some cubs, one of which is a 72" zero turn diesel that I use to mow less than an acre and a half and I paid close to what your neighbor paid for his Spartan. Did I NEED that mower.......heck no. Am I glad I have it......You bet! It did not cost you a dime for his mower, it is his expense and as long as he is happy.....so be it. No one argues with me when I am at the back of the line paying the bill. Live and let live. Go check out his new mower, compliment him on his selection (if you want), then look at your collection and smile with pride! You can change a lot of things in this world, but not someone's mind. You did your part by assisting him and advising him, but ultimately it is his choice. I hope he gets many years worth of service out of it!

You can change a lot of things in this world, but not someone's mind.
I would not say that is an entirely accurate statement. Cub Cadet changed my mind On Zero turns. I was dead set against them since I first saw My Great Uncles Dixion In the Late 1970's Until about 2020 Swore I would never own One But the Cub steering wheel Zero turns is what changed My Mind

That with the steering wheel. They were decent Machines for Mowing sloped or flat Ground

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
