I do not have videos of that specifically - I probably should make one, since it's a request I've heard a couple times.

It's pretty easy, honestly. It's a little heavy and awkward to remove but it's not terribly difficult if you are even slightly mechanically inclined.

Why do you need to remove the pans?

The only way I can see to be able to remove the entire drive shaft and replace the shaft and coupler (the shaft and coupler on the transaxle end are really chewed up) is to remove the top side and even loosen the steering column to gain access. Please tell me there’s an easier way!

Aside from the drive-shaft situation you now have 2 x 2135 but only 3 side panels , you still have to keep looking or you will lay awake at night

You’re absolutely right! I actually found a panel for a 2185 that I’ve been using but it just isn’t right and has been keeping me up at night! Lol. So that panel has moved over to the latest acquisition which will likely be sold after the drive shaft repairs……ok, if we’re being honest here, I’ll probably just mask and paint over the 2185 sticker and keep both tractors!!

You don't need to do anything with the steering shaft. Just remove the fender pans and the battery to gain access.

Soluna,
I dug in deep today. There was not enough clearance to get the drive shaft with coupler through the steering column so I had to lift the column up a bit. Got the replacement shaft in. Watched your video again about these transmissions and took your advice to check the mounting bolts on each side. As you found, the right side were all tight. The left side is a different story. All three were missing! And must have been so for a long time because the holes were all full of gunk. In fact the entire tranny was completely encased in gunk. I’m hoping my fix for the dip stick and tightening the very loose pressure relief connector will address any leaks. It was 2 1/2 qts low.
Anything else I should look for?

Sounds like you have found the reason why the driveshaft coupler was worn in the first place. In my experience the coupler design is fantastic and lasts forever if the transmission and engine are firmly mounted.

I would double check for cracks in the case around the bolt holes. You can develop an external leaks from the case cracking. Make sure to add some Loctite to the bolts upon reassembly.

I usually just add an extra oring to the dispticks to get them to fit more snugly.

It sounds like you are on the right track.
