Mower deck
Hey guys I’m somewhat new to cub cadets and have a question about my 129. Can someone tell me if there is anything I can do to keep my mower deck cleared of debris? I mow a little over 2 acres of pasture with it and by the time I’m done the deck is packed solid with grass. The deck doesn’t have baffles in it anymore, but otherwise it’s in good working order. Just wondering if there is some kind of coating or paint that would help with the issue. Thanks for the help.

How theyre build has a little to do with why they clog up. Bolt heads hanging down under the deck surface catch grease and the clumps keep getting bigger. Try to my when it’s dry. I scrape mine clean after each use. Helps keep them from rotting away also.

Install new baffles. Then clean and paint with some oil base paint...

good advice, if grass is wet and high expect some clogs ! best thing to do is blow the clippings towards the previous mowed area to minimize the restriction of trying to discharge into unmowed grass if not already doing , get the front end up on some ramps and pressure wash the deck after mowing to remove accumulations and preserve the life of the deck, not much else can be done.

You bring up a good point in washing. The other day while at Tractor supply I saw this MTD Deck wash kit. I have seen these on newer tractors and wondered how well they might work on older style decks. Anyone try installing this on an older deck? Maybe install 2 "one on each side? I would assume you would run the blades with water connected and running.

Never had/used one but I suspect it's one of those feel good devices, ( really doesn't do much but makes you feel good about using it ) ! lots of that kind of stuff around today. Hard to beat taking the deck off each fall scraping the crud off and pressure washing, sharpen the blades and paint the underside and it's ready for the next spring ! Crown makes a good cold galvanizing spray/paint I sometimes use.

For 30 bucks for 2 I might have to try them just as an experiment.

Thanks for letting me know. The idea seems good in theory. Maybe a good idea that could be improved upon somehow???

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
