The mags have a kill wire that grounds them out with the key in the off position. They also have a diode in each wire to keep them from grounding each other out. Check and see if the diode is open or the kill wire came off the mag.

I had a Vanguard that a mouse ate through one of the kill wires to one mag and it did the same thing. Get ready to pull the engine out. Not a big deal to do it. A couple hours and a few cold ones. I suggest that you pull the fender pan and undo the drive shaft at the pump and have someone hold the shaft tight to the engine as you move the engine forward because the coupling is a MAJOR PITA to get back together once it comes apart, ask me how I know.

Here is your Ignition Circuit. As Sam stated, you might look at the "Yellow" wire(s) to see if they are intact.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
