Default Scored an Original

A couple days ago I started a thread about the value of an Original. It turns out that there has been an O sitting outside a barn two doors down (1/2 mile) across the street since last fall. I don't know how I missed it for so long, but finally noticed it last week. Last week I stopped by to ask if it was for sale. Today, I struck a deal with the owner. The machine was his great aunt's which she purchased new. The machine got parked in the barn about 15 years ago because the clutch wouldn't release all the way. Other than that, he said everything else worked ok and it ran good with no smoke. So, here are some pics of #55,624:

It's all there, but needs a lot of TLC. The only major thing missing is the air cleaner. The engine is free, as are the deck spindles. The deck obviously has a huge hole in it, but oddly the rest of it is really solid.
Anyway, I'm going to slowly restore this thing as time permits, no rush. I have other projects that need attention first.
So, after all that, was $90 a good deal?

EDIT: So, searching around on the web, I found a guy selling a pair of rear fenders for an early Cub Cadet. Are the O fenders the same as 70/100 by chance?

awesome score man! For 90 bucks, you ought to cut their lawn with it a few times when it's fixed up just to say thanks

Looking forward to your progress updates with it.

Great to see another 'O' saved from slow death. You stole that thing. The seat backrest is probably worth that.. LOL good luck with the restore. Keep us posted with pics as you progress.

Congrats on your late 63 O! Allen has a backrest like that on his 100. For $90 you did pretty darn good! The only fenders that will work are for a O.

Awesome find on your Original! It's nice and straight! I wish, I could find an O for a deal like that.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys! I just scored a pair of rear fenders today (see my other thread), but I guess they are for a 70/100. I kinda thought they were, but for $72 I couldn't not buy them. Maybe someone wants to trade even up?? Anyway, the O is tucked away back inside and soaking in penetrating oil. I'm going to be out of town for a week, so I think I'm going to get it fired up when I get back to see where I'm at with the engine. Like I said, this is going to be a slow gradual project as I have a lot of irons in the fire at the moment.
Here's one more pic of it with my workhorse 149 (with the free wheelweights I just got for it as well as the $30 Brinly cultivators - It's been a heck of a week around here!!)

Nice find on the O. I like the backrest. Can't wait to see the restored product.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
