Default Tiller Gear Box

17111811gearbox.jpg

How is that tiller gearbox attached to that tractor? Wouldn't those both be aluminum rearend models? This from the 1711/1811 link Roland posted.

Looks like an aluminum housing to me.

The IH built tillers were designed for the Cast Iron Rear Ends S/N: <720,000

Above that serial range, a "adapting package" is needed.

What's the diff in the tubes?

I thought it looked like an aluminum rearend. It was advertised on a 1711 & 1811.

You know, i should back up, I cannot tell for 100% certain but I still believe it is a cast center like Lou said. Otherwise someone butchered that bracket to make it work.

Cast iron? Surely it must have been swapped. The 1711 is just the CCC version of the model year 85 782, quite a while after they had switched to cast aluminum sometime in 1983. Serial numbers are 737,625-747,224 according to all the docs I can find.

I do as well, (a Y/W) but my serial # on it is under 720,000 (it's 706xxx if I remember right).

This pic was from an ad listing a 1711 & 1811, I just wondered how the gearbox was attached. Technically I think a 1711 would have been late enough that it should have been an aluminum diff is why I inquired.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
