Default Strange Cub story

Hi,

I already have a JD 322 and a Ariens YT11. A guy in town had a fairly beat 3206 that runs smooth but the hydro pump is out, so he said. Anyway picked it up for $400. Read many posts here and figured it was the gerotor. Took the pump off expecting to find lots of little bits of a broken rotor and it is perfectly fine. The tractor is filthy except for the pump area so I figured he replaced the gerotor and it still didn't work. This could be bad so I got back on the thread and saw it is possible to assemble it backwards. well it was and once I reassembled it everything worked. (I haven't had the heart to tell him) So those posters who said it may not work if reassembled backwards were right. Now I see the hydro leaks so I started with the lift hydro. Again your posts advised on the o rings to use and now it is tight. There is one more trans leak I am tracking down and also found years of junk under the engine shrouds and all around the undercarriage. The tractor is very smooth running, my wife now wants it as hers as soon as I finish the restoration.THANKS for the help!

Not really a strange story, it's one with a happy ending though!

I like hearing stories like that. It's great that you've learned a bit from here and applied it to help get yours going. That 3k series if it's in decent shape is worth quite a bit more than what you paid for it but even if it's "beat" as you say if you have a smooth running 22 hp Kohler and non leaking tractor with power steering and hydraulics for $400, you're doing great.

So you bought a cub that someone said was junk and fixed it for little to nothing? Nothing strange about that, happens to me all the time.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
