Default Looking for ideas/advice

Call me old fashioned but I’m contemplating converting my one eye 1782 to a metal hood, grill and side panels. My plastic panels have the normal pin damage as well as previous repair to grill and cutout on the side someone did to access the dip stick. I’ve read a couple threads on other forums of this being done but they weren’t detailed. Anyone here do this? I’m seeing the dash has to be modified to accept the metal hood but will the front end end pieces of an older CCC spread frame go on my cyclops or is there way more to it? Thanks, Mike

Also have contemplated putting it up for trade for a real 782/982 if this isn’t feasible but it’s got some sentimental value as well. A little history, I should note that I learned to drive/now on what I remember to be a 782 but could have been a 982 and my grandfather only bought IH for the family business dating back into the early sixties. Every truck, big truck, backhoe, tractor, etc was IH and he bought the last real GT which is the 1782 right before he retired which is what I have. He always complained about the plastic and said that was the last one anyway but I put about 1,000 hours on it and never broke stuff until my cousins used it after I moved away.

That is a black foam shovel handle cover,,

OCC used to require VERY little pics!!

I've contemplated this many times. I love the styling of the Cyclops tractor. And if the rest of the tractor is in good shape, I would not at all be above buying all brand new plastic for a tractor that is three times the machine of anything and its class built today. 4 $800 you can have all new plastic spend an extra 38th and you can have all new decals. You can't buy a new machine for $838 especially one is nice is that diesel.

To me it's an absolute no-brainer

John I’ve never seen that project of yours that’s cool.

Trent I’ve looked new panels there’s a member with NOS diesel panels on our site that would sell them. Just have a chance to get a CCC 1204 metal nose/panel/hood tractor for cheap just not sure of how much reinventing of the wheel would have to be done.

Mike, the cyclops frame is the same as the 82 series. If you look up the part number for say, an 1811, and a 1864, the frames have different part numbers. I tore down an 1864 for parts to the bare frame. I've compared it to the 82 series frame, and the only thing I can see that is different is on the front axle bolster. They changed the design of it just a little. Probably enough of a reason to change part numbers. All the important holes are present and the same. I see no reason that a SGT would be any different.

So...... why not just take all the hoods, dash and fenders off, and swap it all to the older design? It's all just bolt on. It would be easier if you could get an 18/2072 parts tractor as a donor, but only because of needing the solid steering colmn. But even that can be gotten around. It's a lot easier to make a solid column and attach it to the ps handpump than modifying a steel hood to fit the cyclops style dash. If you wanted, you could just leave the cyclops fenders and rear tank since you have a diesel. Just change the dash forward. Might have to make/modify the tunnel covery to work.... but again, easy mod.

That's what I would do anyway.
