Shocked !!! Front Wheel Bushing Price
I just about had to be wheeled out of our dealer after I was quoted the price for an individual front wheel bushing part number IH-539476-R1 for my 80 hydro. At just under $14 each, that means 2 for each rim, 4 total, I had to pick my jaw off the floor and about had to do the same for myself.
Does anyone know if there is a replacement for these or is there truly something special about them? I am very curious because everything I have done thus far has been relatively cheap until I got to this. Thanks in advance for your help.

alsparl: The Model 80 was produced 1977 & 1978. That makes it 32 or 33 years old. Plus, it's a model that MTD did not make!! That you can get the bushings at all is a minor miracle! MTD job orders these kind of things from local/regional machine shops. As you can imagine, the Model 80 wheel bushings are not a high-volume item thus the high cost...I suggest that , if you really need those bushings, take out a second mortgage on your house and bite the bullet :biggrin2.gif:........

It would be interesting to find out which (if) bushing is the same under MTD's 7 digit part number as the IH part number they currently are.

I picked up some wheel bearings and tie rod ends at a surplus place near Idaho Falls, ID the other day... cheap enough , but I hope they are right..lol. Less than $4 each.

Quietlines and narrow frames, mostly projects but I mow with a 1200 and have a 122 set up for pulls. Wandering the country bringing towers to wind farms everywhere, and bringing yellow stuff home to Texas. Also into flatfender jeeps.

When you looking at all of these machines being 20-40+ yrs old I think that some need to realize that if a part lasted this long, another OEM part should also. I am not that much of a purist, nor am I loaded. But when it comes down to a important part skimping for a cheap replacement is not an option. You get what you pay for, keeping it original only seems right to me..
After all, it's not like the OEM parts are going to be around for ever either..
