Front log splitter on a GT ?

I have a 1650 twin-stick front hydraulics. Will the hydro pump work a front log splitter off the front hydraulics?

It would probably be very slow. Also I doubt it will split anything real large. My 20 ton splitter is 20hp. The pump runs at 3000 PSI @ 24 GPM.

The pressure on a Sundstrand Hydro is 600 PSIG Maximum. I am going to say NO.

Like they all said.... not enough volume or pressure with the stock charge pump on the hydro.. you would need to mount an aux pump and reservoir like they used with the loaders and such to effectively power a log splitter .. good idea though!

You could build the quick attach mount to incorporate an auxiliary pump to run from your pto. Then you would need a tank and extra valve.

Pulling a log splitter behind a 1450, or your choice of garden tractor, is just about as good of an idea. Though, somewhere I recall seeing a JD garden tractor with one mounted on the front, but don't recall the power source for the splitter.

In the 60's, there was a log splitter attachment made to fit on the rear axle of a cub. I think it bolted onto the lug bolts of the rear rim. Build a replica or find one of the originals. I have only seen them in brochures. Perhaps my Uncle Lewy has one for sale?

Ha! Totally forgot about that one. Its called a Unicorn. Prolly because they are rare as a unicorn? Last on I recall seeing here at OCC was being sold from member Wild Bill.

That’s a good analogy! This is probably known but It’s a screw type log splitter and the screw splitter looks like a unicorns horn.
