With all that weight hanging out there on that NF axle w/original steering I'll bet it's gonna take a lot more than a paint job!!
I can just imagine how hard it will be to steer that w/anything in the bucket.
He's asking about twice what the loader alone cost back in the day.

I have a 1999 White GT2055 with a Kwik-way Loader. After one year of using it, I went and bought a used JD 425 with a 40 loader just to have power steering. My older brother still uses the loader on my White GT2055, but for snow removal and lifting things on to shelves. He doesn't use it for material moving, i.e., dirt, sand, gravel, or mulch. I drive down the street with my JD X748 and move his mulch for him with my 45 Loader, or I use my JD 2025R compact tractor with a loader. It is just a royal PIA to use a tractor with manual steering and a loader.

I see people buying the electronic power steering kits lately from Cub Cadet, Simplicity, or direct from the manufacturer to adapt to these manual-steer garden tractors now, if they are running a loader on a manual steer garden tractor. While they're not as nice as hydraulic power steering, they really improve loader work. Because when the bucket is full, transporting and turning gets tiring really fast, especially if you work with it for several hours.

With narrow frames and wide frames, I find a Johnny Bucket Jr. to be more suited. For material transporting from point A to point B because the load is closer to the tractor frame and lower to the ground. If you really need a loader tractor, get something with power steering. Like the later Supers with power steering or an 1862 or 1864 model Cub Cadet or even a 3000 series.
