Kubota diesels sleeved or not?
First post here in this forum. I restored a 123 in 1989 and used it exclusively to mow up until 2005 when I got a steal of a deal on a JD 317 with an 18hp Onan in it. I've also owned an Ingersoll 446 since 2010. Anywho... I have been lusting for a diesel for the last year or so which brings me to the question. I read either here or on another site that the D600 is sleeved and the D640 is not. Is that true? I guess it's not that big of deal unless and until you have to rebuild one. The power difference is inconsequential it seems, and I've had thoughts of turboing any acquisition anyway just to have a playtoy.
Thanks, F350ctd |

First of all
Im not where I can look up the specific details of those 2 engines.... The last Kubota I rebuilt was sleeved, but I can't recall the model. No, there is no HP benefits to sleeves. Only rebuilding benefits. I will also say, I wouldn't suggest a turbo for these engines. Unless you are a diesel mechanic and understand what and how to add one. They are not a "bolt on" item. Plus, the benefit would be minimal. |

Thanks for the info. I was referring to the extra 40cc in the 640 that I had heard wasn't sleeved. I'm no stranger to turbos as my name implies, I stuffed a Cummins into my Ford. I'd probably never get around to it anyway, always wanted to add a turbo to the D239 in my 684 IH and I ain't done that yet either!

That's what I have heard also. The D600's were sleeved and the D640's weren't which gave it the extra 2 HP. I haven't had either one of my apart to know for sure though.
Welcome to OCC also! |

Just took a look at the Cub parts site, the crank case for a 1572 shows a liner and the crank case for a 1772 shows no liner so it looks like the D600 is in fact sleeved.

Turbo Kubota's
You can easily turbo a Kubota D600-640.I have done a few and made adapter kits that are bolt on. You need a KKK Borg Warner KP31 Smart Car turbo. The power is much more you run out of traction before power.I get 10 psi of boost on a hard pull.hhttp://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/images/smilies/bigeyes.gifttp://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/images/smilies/Announce.jpg

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
