782 Kohler CH18 repower
I just finished my winter project. Re powering my 782 with a CH18 command engine. ( I took the limit screw out of the carburetor, supposedly making it 20 HP) For anyone who wants to replace their tired old KT17 with a modern OHV engine, it is a really easy swap. I used the engine, engine plate, and muffler from an old worn out 1863 that I picked up for $50. The engine was still in good shape, so I freshened it up with new rings, seals and gaskets. I used a Command drive hub adapter from Midwest super cub ( part# 52731) , and made a new driveshaft 2 3/4 inch longer than the original one using a piece of 5/8 inch steel rod. I used the original PTO clutch, and wired everything up to work with the new engine. I also took the time to rebuild the steering gear and repaint the sheet metal while I had everything apart. I'm ready for mowing season now. That little red 782 has been a real work horse, and I plan on using it for many more years.

Very nice. I did the same thing plus I added power steering, dual hydraulics and a cat 0 hitch. You will love it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
