Broken ACR tab
Short version: If ACR tab broke off my K321AQS, what are my options?
Just finished a complete rebuild. Cub Cadet 1450 was cranking over very difficultly, and would not start. After checking valve clearances, I took off the head and found that the compression release was not working. Pulled the cam cover, and could see that the ACR tab was bent down a little, and not even making contact with the tappet. Tried bending it up as gently as I could (it is one of the ones that did not have the hardened tab), but it just wouldn't stay up and give me enough clearance. Kept at it, but in the end it snapped. So now there's no ACR tab, and motor can't crank over enough to start. Do I: (a) find a used camshaft somewhere, and give it a try? (b) use a bigger battery/starter that can get her going without any ACR? (c) give up. The used camshaft option just has me a little nervous, as it might just put me in the same position I'm in now, if its ACR tab is not good. Speaking of giving up... if anyone knows of a re-builder in the Rochester area of NY, I'm at the point where I'll pay for some help. I've been fighting with this for a while now. Thanks, Jim |

Never got one to bend, but all the ones I tried were hardened and SNAPPED. Bought a new camshaft. I don't know how much a new camshaft would be, but that's a lot of work to go through to install a used one that may be just as bad as what you had. My first step would be to price a new camshaft.
If anyone knows of someone rebuilding the ACR, please post it here.

I appreciate the feedback. Looking around for a replacement... part number is KH-47-010-09. If anyone has one (with a good ACR tab!), please let me know and we can make a deal.
I really do appreciate the support on this forum. Hopefully we can get this old girl running again. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
