Timer & ignition switch
Does the glow plug timer module and the ignition switch have a history for going bad? There was a hint of some sort of a bad design when they first built these smaller Cub cadet diesel back in 1984-5.

Times module is just for the light. Has no effect on the glow plugs themselves. I don't know if it has a history of failure, but it does basically nothing and most guys remove them. Ignition switch, yes..... as stated it just has too many volts going through it. I guess Roland hasn't had time to post a updated wiring circuit for the glow plug mod yet. It should be in the "pipes".

882 glow light indicator
Thank you for the clarification on the ignition switch... I think I will just keep several of the ignition switches on hand. I found a new Kubota ignition assembly set for $40. I like keeping it as stock as long as there are parts still available for it. You have been most helpful...

Like I suggested earlier, I would do the relay upgrade to the GP circuit. If done, that ign switch will last a very long time!

882 glow light indicator
Jonathan ... I replaced the ignition switch a few minute's ago with a new one and I still do not have a working and glowing plug indicator. everything was put back correctly too. The engine will start after 60 seconds of back switching to make the supposedly glow plug to glow. (it does not) I do not know at this point what will correct this dilemma! Maybe try something else? The indicator light is controlled by the glow plug timer. The timer has no effect on the glow plugs.
Are the glow plugs working? I'm assuming you have not done the relay upgrade? Take the glow plug timer off and throw it away. Then do the relay upgrade. You sure the bulb isn't burned out? You never said if you did any electrical checks. If the only real "issue" you are having is the light isn't working, then you need to check out the actual light. Please answer all my questions so we can proceed. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
