$200 won't go very far in paying for a replacement tractor (at least a new one). If the Flex Disc joint fails, and allows the fan to find the frame and everything to bounce to a stop, I'm sure it DID make some serious barnyard noises.
That's not too bad a fix (just having gone through it on a 782D last year). A new driveshaft, new flex joints and a fan, and you're likely good for a while, if as you say , the engine is running well.

Inspect the couplers, both at the front and both at the rear.
I'll bet you have damage there as well. I think you are in for surprise IF you price these parts at a Cub dealer. One of the couplers is N/A and there are 2 of them. Everything else still is. Good luck! |

The drive shaft and couplers are available form "parts by Jeff" as mentioned by ol’George, just click the banner at the top and your off. The fan and flex disc joint can be purchased through CC Specialties. Looking at the prices its less that $200, more like $130 or so before shipping.
On a side note, I can attest to the superior quality of the Parts Jeff makes. He made me the same set up you likely need. They are much better that the factory parts they are replacing. |

Just to confirm though(again, my ignorance on part names and such) but the couplers are the fabricated metal on each end of the drive shaft that the flex couplers bolt onto, right? Those definitely need to be replaced because both of them were sheared off at one of the bolts. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
