Plastic Governor Gear K3321A
I'm waiting on a piston before having the engine bored and just making sure I have everything lined up for reassembly. I did a search, but didn't find a definitive answer on replacing the plastic governor gear on this engine. I'm assuming it's original and it does have the cross bolt holding it on.
If I should replace it, are they available new? |

First part in it is the last part out when rebuilding so I would put a new one in.

The new ones are plastic as well.
I'd replace the nut on the shaft also. Inspect the shaft closely and don't loose the shim that's on the stub shaft the governor rides on. |

Ok, sounds good. When you say the nut on the shaft are you meaning the stub shaft? If so, mine doesn't have one. Or the lever shaft nut?
Didn't have a shim either, that I saw. The block is at the shop being tanked and waiting on the piston. |

The brass bushing nut that screws into the block.
A lot of oil gets past it when they become worn. First engine I overhauled i did not know about the shim either. Did not see it or even know to look for it. However the machine shop saved my butt on that one as it wound up in their wash tank!! |

I might be hoping for the same. Or finding the thickness and a suitable substitute . In this Cub wasteland, everything has to come from across the border or Ontario.

How is the arm on the shaft? If it is loose you may want to get one of those also.

The arm and shaft are good, still tight. The Brass gland nut has a slight amount of play. Someone has been in the engine before and replaced parts. The cam looks like new and the valves and guides have been replaced. Really hard to say what's original. It may even be a donor engine. Once I get it back, I'll have a good look for a serial # since it will be tanked and clean. The tins and lower case have been painted a few times by the look of it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
