New 147 owner from CT
Hi,
We just moved from Florida to Connecticut, and decided it might be a good idea to have a snow removal method to go with our long driveway. I also have a 22 foot sailboat and a 24 foot old Airstream trailer to maneuver around in the driveway, after some poking around, it seems like and old Cub Cadet might do all those things and more. After a number of craigslist possibilities that i was one call to late for, I finally got a nice old 147 with a heavily modified 483u1113 mower deck and a bagger with an impeller mounted to the mower deck and driven by a belt added to an extra pulley, wheel weights and thankfully, little rust. I am looking for a snowblower and a replacement for the missing PTO handle, and it looks like I will have to repair the PTO clutch and rebuild the carb. This website seems really terrific, and the Cub Cadet community is one of the biggest reasons I bought one. Alex McKenna |

brightrhino,
Congratulations on the 147. It ought to be a great tractor for what you want to do But i have to be nosey and ask... Why the big climate change? Going from florida to Connecticut seems drastic :biggrin2.gif: Or do you just like to push snow? |

We moved from the blistering heat of Florida to the lovely cool weather of CT for work, my wife got a job as a director at a local hospital system, I am a computer consultant, so it doesn't matter where I live. I grew up in upstate NY, so I like the cold, it was 103 degrees at 9AM the day we left FL, I don't miss that. The economy in FL is in free fall, here in CT it is though there was no recession, the difference is amazing.
I will take some pictures of the tractor tomorrow, I am really interested in hearing your thoughts on the modified mower deck. I removed and cleaned the carb today, replaced the fuel lines and filter, the glass bowl is missing. I started removing the PTO clutch and noticed the lower ear from the starter generator is broken clear off, I think that might be the cause of the "engine knock" the previous owner spoke about. The electric lift has been removed and replaced with a manual lift, and the rear of the starter/generator is just floating free in space, I would imagine there should be some kind of bracket there. Thanks for your welcome everyone. Alex |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
