I have asked several times on here what a tractor is worth because I just wasn't sure if it was a fair deal or not. I am from PA where Cubs are everywhere and have lived in Georgia for the past 18 years where Cubs are hard to find and cost more. I know its hard to compare prices in different area's but, I always like to know what the going price is. We are all in this hobby (obsession) together to help each other out any way we can. I also don't mind telling someone what I paid for something if it helps them make a decision. I do not part any tractors out but I would rather see that then going to the scrap yard. I only ever sold one Cub and it was a pos 1405.

ive had "cub fever" for over a year now and have only sold one tractor and parted one tractor. the only way i can see selling them is too replace them with something better. so i sold my plain 100 and got a 100 with creeper, lights, fenders and weights thats in better shape. the 122 i parted was pretty well shot. i then sold the hydraulic lift, creeper and lights out of it to fund for the last batch of tractors i bought. but all in all i buy my cubs too use and hopefully someday restore a couple of them

i buy mainly to keep. ive had a few dud tractors that i could not get to work right, got fed up with them and sent them down the road. but they soon got replaced by another tractor. im looking at buying a Cub Cadet 100 loaded with a snow blower and deck right now. THAT im keeping :biggrin2.gif::biggrin2.gif: probably will send the Bolens down the road. one of the speedex S-19s i sold to my neighbor. my other speedex is staying as well as my 2 cubs. hopefully soon, 3 cubs.

oak, depending on where you are located in GA, if you go to craigslist-north west georgia and search "cub cadet", there was a completely restored "O" for $700. i don't know if it's still there or not, if it wasn't so close to christmas i would have to go look at it my self, i ask my daughter (13 year old) if that "O"would be something she'd be interested in from santa, boy, did i ever get a weird look!!!! LOL jeff

Default what a good question

I also wandered if people bought them to flip them. I look on ebay and ic SO many cubs 149's in particular just sold for parts. I starterd collecting or shoud i say hoarding them. I started because my dad bought a 149 new in 73 i think and i used it to plow snow when i was young. And now my dad is real ill but everytime i bring a new 149 or 169 it peps him up. its kinda sad that people just get them and resell usally trying to rip off people. I have picked up over the past yr 3 149', 3 169's, a 59m chipper shreder, 3 a2 tillers 1 a1 tiller. When i see something on craigslist i tell temm the truth about how much they are worth. I seen a very nice #1 trailer that an old gentle man had and he only wanted 100.00 for it . i was the 2nd caller and told him what it was worth. I saw a post on here that a guy picked it up for 100. if it was me i would have paid what it was worth... And have paid more. just last week i got a a 169 for 300 dollars and told him i would give him 500 just on principle...

I do both, to a point. I have 7 now, soon to add 3 more, maybe 4. All but my 1200 run and are used, with the exception of the 123, which is going to be my first real restoration... I hope. The 1200 Is a parts machine, as the transmission has problems, and I stole parts from it for the 1650 snd 1250 anyway. I tried to sell my 782 for 150 over all the money i had in it, but it wasn't suitable for the job the buyer needed it for. If I had the opprotunity to sell, I would, but only to keep the hobby going. Prices up here fluctuate a lot. People are reasonable, and 550 for a non running tractor in good shape from honest folk is more than reasonable. I buy every cub for sale that I see up here, and all but 2 that I know of havd been through my shop for repair by my small engine business started by this hobby. That's just my .02

There have been some folks I have emailed on Craigslist on both sides of the fence, selling too low, and selling too high. I hate seeing people getting taken when they don't know what they have.

2 weeks ago I found a deal on Craigs list, a whole nose w/lights, mule, deck w/new belt, 2 rear fender & 3 NEW blades. all for $ 125.00. Tractor was NOT for sale. I phoned him & drove right up to get it. Final deal was $ 100.00. I've been looking for lights for my # 122 for over 4 months. Found them on e-bay & all went over $ 80 to 120 $$$$$$ & more. This was his Fathers tractor that was in the 1st. stage of restoring & passed away last year.
The guy was going to transform the body of the # 122 into a choo choo train, & just wanted to get rid of the extra parts that he won't ever use. He knew there was a following for the Cub Cadets but it was plain & simple, he knew he could get more by listing every individual part, but ?????.

The reason he let it go for $ 100.00 because he just wanted the parts out. Just OUT! He took into consideration that I drove 1 1/2hrs to get it. Knew that I had a # 122 & wanted dem'dere lights (they work also).

Did he know what they were really worth?????????????

So all's fair in play & war when a deal is made. But when a person try's to pull the wool over someone & take advantage of their nature by unfair means is where I also draw a line.

My opinion only,

Nik,

I actually talked to a woman that was selling a cub cadet 582 last week for 250.00 that started right up she said.
She told me the guy that bought it relisted it that same day for 1K!!!!!
She told me some people have no morals.
The guy who bought it is one town over from me.Belt drive anyways...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
