New owner Chicago West suburbs
Hi all,
I just acquired a 1966-vintage Cub Cadet 102. I had been sort of looking for about a year since buying a 126 for a house-warming gift for my son, and the search heated up over the last few weeks after he drove over on his 126 and moved 3 trailer-loads of yard debris in about 20 minutes that would've taken my wife and me all afternoon. Decided then and there, we need a tractor. Anyway, we found this 102. It came with the mower deck (I think 42", still need to measure), plow blade, 36" snowblower, chains, wheel weights, and the creeper gear. PO says he rebuilt the engine 8 years ago including piston and con rod, then took it to R F Houtz to dial in. Starts immediately and settles into a nice idle... PO told me before we even saw the tractor, "It does a lot, but none of it well..." Well, we quickly discovered an unrebuilt leaky fuel tap that was only half open, and the throttle linkage was such that it only allows about 2/3 throttle. No wonder... Plenty of little things to do, but that's half the fun of an old machine! Tried to upload a pic but getting some sort of photobucket error message. I thought photobucket was pretty much dead..... I was trying to load directly from my gallery. Guess I need to look into the site settings? Steve

Mine definitely needs a little love.... I will need to go through the deck to check bearing condition etc, the front wheel bearings are shot, it's missing its hood ornament and steering wheel center cap, and it needs a general check-over and maintenance. But I think I got a great deal on what seems like a real bulldog of a tractor! (Although my wife thinks its face looks like a jumping spider so she now refers to it as such)
I don't mind doing the work -- I maintain my cars, have restored a few motorcycles (one of which is my daily driver 9+ months out of the year), ... nothing mechanical I can't handle. This one doesn't need anything too serious -- maintenance stuff and then I can fiddle with details.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
