Patched a hole and added a couple braces to the Haban today. We may get some lawn mowing weather some day and wanted to be ready for it...

Great action shot Adrian.
Can't wait to smell some fresh dirt being turned.

After changing out the bad coil yesterday. I pulled the 44A deck off, put the blade on , and pushed a little dirt/gravel with the 1450.

Default 680 Hydro

This is more of a "What did I do with my Cub This Weekend" post.

The 680 was in need of some major TLC on the motor and mower deck.

For the engine department I Seafoamed the engine which seemed to help with a sticking exhaust valve. I've been running the MMO since I got it just in the fuel. I did an oil change after the Seafoam and added some MMO to the engine oil as well. I only run Non-Ethanol fuel, but the previous owner didn't. I did a carb rebuild on the K301. The float needle had been sticking causing it to flood the carb and stink up the garage. While at it I replaced all the fuel lines and added an In-Line fuel shut-off (I was using needle nose vice grips previously to choke of the fuel so I didn't flood the engine - petcock is hard to get to on these engines for "everyday" use.

I also replaced the rubber engine mounts. Those babies were SHOT! Between the seafoam, carb rebuild and new mounts the old girl runs like a top now. I also fiddled with all the cables - cleaned the choke cable as it was sticking. While reinstalling the carb the K301 wanted to rev to the moon, but I followed the static governor settings and reined the motor back in. Gave me an excuse to use the Laser RPM meter I have

On the deck I power washed it. Repainted the bottom, its not great job, but it will keep the rust away until I can get the deck sand blasted. I also replaced the tensioner pivot bolt that holds the idler to the deck. The original one was rust welded to the pivot. It was not easy getting it all separated and cleaned up. The new bolt has a Zerk fitting so it can be greased to prevent this. I had to zap a hole in the top cover of the deck so I could service it without having to remove the top cover.

I also made a "Striping Kit" for the deck. I got my hands on some heavy duty rubber and fastened it to the back of the deck. I believe this is similar in concept to how Ferris does their kits on their decks.

Now she's ready to mow snow (Thanks Ohio!):

Thanks for reading - its a long post, but I pulled some long hours tinkering on the old girl.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
