Sweet! Great job Matt, can't wait to see it all assembled and mounted back on the 682. I bet your proud of it and can't really wait yourself either. Hopefully you have more than a day or two to play around with it before school. I am sure your old man will be glad to send you pictures of it in action this fall and throughout the winter on those days he wants to get out and play instead of using the Farmall! :biggrin2.gif: Certainly can't blame him!!
Great job, great informative thread for sure! |

I moved all of the white parts of the loader back into the garage. I can't believe how many pieces there are in this thing. The paint seems to have dried nice, shiny, and hard, even with the humidity we've had lately. I also painted the pipes for the hydraulics black with a couple of rattle cans I was trying to use up, since I didn't have these pieces ready when I painted the rest of it. Hopefully they'll look ok with the white. I need to make another parts run tomorrow to get a few bolts I don't have, as well as new hitch pins for all 20 of the clevis pins that hold this thing together. Then I can plumb everything, buy a couple of hydraulic hoses I haven't figured out yet, and I should be ready to go.

I washed and waxed the 682 today in preparation for attaching the loader. I had a very hard time getting it to start. I'm starting to wonder how well this will start in the cold after sitting out in the barn for 4 months. I think the carb was too lean, but I guess I'll find out next time I go to start it. Anyway...it looks much better now.
100_4811 (Custom).jpg I was able to work around the fact that these side panels aren't meant for use on a 1282-style tractor by drilling and tapping holes for #10 screws in some scrap angle iron. Problem solved. 100_4815 (Custom).jpg Here's what it looks like now after a little bit of assembly this afternoon: 100_4816 (Custom).jpg |

great looking fel project you have going there, a question i have is. how hard will it be to steer a cub with no power steering after every thing is on and you have a load on?
i know it takes a little of the armstrong steering to run a fel without power steering but is it to much strain on the ross steering box? my buddy has a 125 like mine and he was talking about a loader and i told him i thought any kind of a load would make steering harder then he would think, he is running the wide front tires the same as mine and i see a big difference just by over inflating the fronts for normal usage. just wondered if anyone had this and how it worked for them. :Cub4: |

Got it about 95% assembled today. Still have to hook up the control valve and fill it with fluid. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to figure out how much fluid I need. I'd rather not calculate the internal volume of the entire hydraulic system. I think I'll prime the pump by filling the tank and turning the pump by hand until it fills the filter and everything between the reservoir and the pump. Then I'll put the belt on and operate the hydraulics and add more fluid as necessary. I really hope this thing works after all of this.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
