I've got a bare quiet line frame and the front end taken apart out in the garage right now, if you need pics or measurements just say the word.

That sounds great, not sure what exactly to measure though. I will post some pics with measurements of mine tomorrow if I can get to it, then if it isn't too big a deal, you could post pics of measuring the same points. I am thinking about measuring the height off the dash tower above the frame as well as the width of the top of the dash where the hood sets, I would have to use my stock dash tower to make it work. Then the distance from the dash to the bolt holes in the frame where the grill assembly is attached. Probably the width of the frame rails at the front of the frame as well as where it kicks out wider in front of the dash tower and the length from the front of the frame to where it kicks out in front of the dash tower. I will try to post some pics tomorrow, and any other measurement I would think would be relevant. Once I get some pics with the tape measure in place, you could make similar measurements of yours.

Not a problem whatsoever, I'll check your thread sometime over the weekend and get you some measurements to compare to.

I decided against purchasing the 1250, will not be changing out the hoods. As slow as my project is going, I don't need to add anything else that will require more work and time....I would like to use the tractor this fall and winter!

I think the only difference in the hoods anyways is just the cast nose piece but I may be wrong. I actually like the look of the "divided" nose on your tractor a bit more anyways. They say the grass is always greener on the other side haha.

Desk work is done, off to the garage for me.

Well it was storming here today, so I went out to the shop and tinkered a bit with the tractor. I decided to try to modify my rear fenders today to accept the new tail lights I purchased. Here is pics of the rear fenders with a partial set of Grote clearance lights mounted to them. I think they would work okay (if I got a new lens for the one that is missing, but I think they look goofy, in my opinion though), but I wanted something that looked better. You just got to love how the PO installed the IH decal on the rear, it is off centered and angled, I am guessing they did not use any water when placing it on the tractor. Without wetting them, whereever they touch first is where they are going to be. I hope I do a better job puttig it on there after it gets painted! Here are some pics of what the rear fenders looked like prior to getting started.

I tried to find some new replacements for the 149, but they are like finding hen's teeth, so I placed an order with CC Specialties and got a set of 82 series tail lights, here is a pic of the new lights:

010.jpg012.jpg

First off removed the old lights, and cleaned off the fenders.

I then made a template of the 82 tails out of 1/4 plywood scrape that I had laying around.

015.jpg

Then placed the template on the fender and traced out the center hole, if you look at the tail lights, you will see they require a large center hole so the bulb cavity can extend below the surface of the fender. I have been doing some work around the house and neglected to bring my hole saw set with me, so I had to cut them out with a jig saw and dremel tool. They came out okay, not as perfect as a hole saw would have done, but once the lights are mounted, you can't see them anyways.

Lastly, here are some pics of the tail lights mounted to the fenders, they fit the tail light indentation very well, I like they way they turned out. Now I can check one more item off the to do list to get the tractor back on it's feet (wheels)!

I like the taillight idea... finding original ones for the older wf tractors are like you said- hens teeth. Good alternative you came up with.

Great job on this 149! Very impressed as I know little about restoring tractors. Glad you survived the storms today. My yard is a swamp

Hey Jeff:

I'm enjoying the education you are giving us through your process on the restoration. The Grote tail lights advertise their two bulb brightness and might work on a "custom modified" tractor. Your solution does look much more "classic". More for me to ponder before I start my restore project.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
