Jon, I picked up that pump a few years ago to use on this loader and that sucker still isn't mounted up.

A lot of guys "over there" have used that pump and they say it works great.

I got a pump with it that has never been used, so its NOS, and the left hand post is a reservoir that has also never been used. It is about 1.5 gallon, I think. I just worked on a 149 that I have had for several months, but never got around to. After replacing the Walbro with a rebuilt Carter, it fired right up and runs smooth. So, I appreciate the advice on which cub to try to put it on and I do think the 149 might be the best candidate to receive it. It also already has a cab on it, though that will only help if it is used on snow duty. Alvy, you are right, I am very fortunate to have it. The fella I purchased it from said he was selling it for a low price to me because he anticipated that I would have to pay to have it fit to my cub. He is the same man that I purchased my sweepster broom from, too. mjsoldcub, no....I am not a welder. Wish I was, but that just is not a possibility at this time in my life. Merk's thread that he has recently posted is helpful to me and I hope mine is helpful to him, as well. Goes to show......you never know how these things might work out when you have some patience and are receptive to different ideas!

Great suggestions everyone, especially about weighing in on which cub to put it on!

Cub 123, If you use your 149, your rear fenders will be in the way of your rear axle mounts when you try to drop the loader frame over the front tires. You might want to modify the front support so you can remove the right side post. That way you can drive into the loader frame. My loader has the hydraulics on the right, I remove the left side for mounting to the tractor.

It may work fine. It's just about the same size as the Cub pump, so I don't see why it would be much different..... It's up to you what to use.

Maxwell:
If the 149 has a hard cab on it, it may be too far forward to be able to use the loader on it without removal.

I don't know how easy or hard or how good or whatever you want to do this, but if you can leave the cab on, I'd mount the valve inside the cab and put quick couplers on the outside. That way the cab is still sealed up, and the pump and controls wouldn't have to be removed if you wanted to take the loader off. Also, I would design the lower structure so that the lower frame stays on the tractor and the loader mounts up to it easily. Makes removal simpler. That's easy for me to say though, as I wouldn't have someone else doing the fab work. It's different when your paying for it. Look around at all the tractor loaders (sub compact through farm tractors), they all are quick mount now. It's not really very difficult to design it that way. Most all loaders now days can be removed in a matter of minutes without the use a a single tool.

Something like this would be simple. Many other ways to do it. This was the first that came to mind, but I'm sure I could come up with something else if I was sitting on a bucket looking at the loader and the tractor.

Finally got the loader mounted to an extra 149 that I had, but the psi tested at around 200. How can I increase the psi in the hydraulics of my tractor so that the loader operates better. I am not wanting a major increase, but if I could increase it to around 400 or so, then I would be happy. Is there some way of doing this at the spool or the pump on the tractor?

Thanks!

The manual covers adjusting the pressure.

You will need a pressure gauge to set it properly, if you don't have one you should be able to rent one from a parts store.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
