Jason,

This is the tach I use;

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0044AV5VK...I2ZABVGKPU4NPF

http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...&postcount=191

It's called a vibra tach. Works well.

David

Thanks for the link David.

Here is what I'm looking at

https://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Tach...ive+tachometer

I like the fact it's inductive, seems simpler to use. And I might hook it up permanently as an hour meter. Plus it's cheap

Thoughts?

Looks good Jason, cheap and Prime!

Let me know how it works.

Your carb looks like this, right? Except maybe not so dirty.. The screw that my pen is pointing to is what you use to adjust the idle speed. It's right on top of the carb. It limits the throttle.

Yep. That's what I thought it was. I think mine looks a little different. (the pic is before, it's much shinier now )

I adjusted the other two per the service manual for initial settings. I just need to get the tach and warm the engine up.

However, I need to fix my oil tube first. Any thoughts on that? Should I put some RTV on there?

I did some research (googled this site ) and found the loose tube isn't uncommon. I took a couple tips and drove a couple sockets through it to straighten out the end a bit where it was bent. I then put a little RTV on it and slid it in. Seems to have done the trick.

I also got my muffler heat shield and side panels on. Fired it back up and checked everything out. Oil doesn't leak anymore. I drove it a few feet forward and back and it seems to move fine. A little jerky, but I need to check the hydraulic fluid and change the filter. I'm guessing I'll need to go through the linkages and check things out too. I probably should have done that with the fenders off

PTO rebuild parts came in today. And the tach should come tomorrow (gotta love Prime shipping)

But I still have a few things to do around my house that I had planned for my "vacation". I'm out of town this weekend so I should probably get those done to appease the wife.

I'll likely get back into the 149 in a week or two, but I'm pretty happy with the progress thus far, and it appears this thing is gonna be ready to roll.

Thanks everyone for the help!

I cleaned up the PTO pulley some and painted it white.

Does anyone know what the color scheme was from the factory? I can tell the pulley and screws were white, but how about the throw out levers. Looks like mine weren't painted.

Hopefully I'll get it put together this week and back on the tractor. Maybe I'll take her out and mow over labor day... just need a seat now.

I got all the parts out of the PTO rebuild kit and I can't figure out what these clip things are for. From what I can tell from the instructions, the snap ring and washer are for newer PTOs with a brake. Are these clips for later PTOs too? I didn't have any on my old PTO.

I painted the button and springs. This thing is gonna be purdy..

The three matching springs are "anti rattle springs" that go in between the PTO basket and the PTO disk. Depending on your patience level, you may invoke the "universal adjective" while trying to install them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
