So, I sit with a destroyed 800 block and a rolling chassis.

But, with my smart ingenuity and VAST parts stash that I have accumulated (HAHAA) I had a great idea. I had a complete 8hp K181 out of an 86 that I wasnt using. I took on the endeavor of pulling the 800 crank, stator, bearing plate and flywheel off the original motor and adding them to the 86 engine. I used the 800 rod and the 86 piston, plus the 800 PTO. It all went back together very nicely. I threw it in the tractor and fired it up. Keep in mind I never ran the 86 engine. It runs well! The carb needs a kit and fine adjustments, but it has plenty of power. The next big thing will be the ISO mounts. They need replaced. Also needed a key switch...

So, all in all, I ended up making the 800 run again, but it took a little creativity. Here in the next few days I'm going to replace the key switch, ISO mounts and do some fine tuning and get it back on the move. sorry, didn't have time to get any pics of this, but I'm sure Ill get a few over break.
You are a braver man than I!! Congrats on your thinking and mechanical skills! Good job!!

Thanks for the praise, guys! It would have been a fairly easy swap, but the 86 and 800 have different crank lengths (a feature of the 86, which has longer crank), plus the 800 has a tapped hole in the center of the crank for the PTO. Hard to say how many people would have done that I suppose...

Nice work.I did somthing similar putting a QL motor in a 100.
I never looked at the pto on my 800.I thought it had the 4 threaded holes in the block for the pto.Does the 86 block have the threaded holes in the block also?

Yep, the block had the four holes for the PTO. I made sure of that before I tore into it...one does not want to forget the spacer that goes in between the crankshaft seal and the PTO.

Really its a direct swap as far as the block. It was just time consuming pulling the crank, re-timing the gears, pulling the flywheel off both engines and pulling all the stuff off the 86 crank to get it off (basket pulley and mechanical PTO). the only other time I had to do this was in a 122 when I needed to switch cranks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
