I wouldnt think theres something spical to priming the system. If I remember right it sits at the bottom of the block so it should pic up, with out question. Now like someone said, wonder if it was bad in the gen set to begin with. It may have had a low oil sensor that saved it. Dont know.

I think you better take a good look at that oil pump and make sure it's in spec before you put it together and the oil passages maybe some sealant got into a place it shouldn't. Hate to spend other peoples $$$ but I'd put a new pump in it and a new Gov gear, just my 2 cents.

Just had another thought, Gensets start wide open with cold oil and high oil pressure just maybe the pump shaft is slipping on the drive gear.

Thats the $64.00 question, I guess. These oil pumps are so basic, it would be hard to believe there was something wrong with it. I removed the cover plate, it has almost no wear showing where the rotors spin. I mean, you can see the faint witness of then spining, but thats it. I need to depth mic the pocket where the rotors spin, I have not done that. I guess it's possible there's excessive clearance between the interior of the pump pocket, and the rotors?

Do yourself a favor, knock out/reinstall the roll pin on the shaft/gear.
Then you know it is turning/ok and wasn't just a "tight fit" with a sheared pin.
last thing you need to do now is ASSUME anything, it only takes a couple of minutes.
Those gerotor style pumps don't usually wear, so I'm with you on not replacing it if it shows no or little wear.

George

Im guessing, never thought of it till you mentioned it, that that broken roll pin would be like if you broke a pin in your drive shaft. Some times they break and hang on the drive couplier and run a while. Ill be sure to check that on the 18 I rebuild this fall.

Not much progress the last couple of days. My girlfriend, got loose Wednesday night, no amount of searching calling and whistling could recall her. Got the call Thursday morning, she was hit by a car, killed on impact. Brought her home and buried her, trying to focus on something other than her, but its going to take a little time.

Yeah, it sucks.

Just drove a 120 mile round trip to drop the crankshaft of to be ground .010" under on the rods. I cannot tell you how many times I looked in the back seat expecting to see her. She made all those trips with me, including the run to Mt. Orab to pick up the 2072.

This too, shall pass.

.010 under rods are ordered, crank is dropped off to be ground, I will order the governor and gaskets tomorrow. Hopefully by the end of next week I will have everything I need to make the second attempt at redemption.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
