I got the trans completely apart and back together halfway at least. I'll get the input shaft put back together hopefully tomorrow. Everything (bearings, etc) all look great, particularly for being 50 yrs old. Someone had been in there before after the shifter forks with what looks like vice teeth imprints. a little file work and polishing with a strip of sandpaper cleaned it up nicely.
A pressure washer cleaned the housing up some (a shower cleaned ME up some after the pressure washing seemed to deposit most of the inner sludge on me. Given that this is a repair not an overhaul (I'll eventually do that to the original trans that's in the Original) I'm going to replace the broken gears, clean up 50 years of sludge , and call it good. In addition to having what I hope will be a working trans, I now know (we'll see!!) how to strip and rebuild them, which is the greater good. I'm impressed how well that Glyptal (or Red Lead) holds up after all these years!

I got the rest of the gears back in...the input shaft cluster. Now to make/find new gaskets, which will slow me down some, and get the differential axles and housings back in.
I also cleaned up the bolts... kind of mindless work... but it's all good therapy! John

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens.
