Just curious.... I may have missed it earlier in the post but how are you getting the metal so clean? Are you using chemical stripper and then sanding? It all looks great!

Thanks for the comments.
Finished the lawn mowing ahead of the storms last evening and had time to disassemble the steering column. What a dirty mess. No wonder it didn't steer very well. Will be up-grading to the thrust bearing version like my other 782. Was also going to open up the hydro unit for exterior cleanup and painting. Any precautions or no-no's to consider before separating the two? Do I just remove the bolts and lift the pump unit straight up?

Finished cleaning up the steering column last evening. As you can see, the steering pin had worn flat on two sides. Chucked it up in the drill press and used the angle grinder to reshape.
Ready for primer and paint.
