Gotcha. I cross referenced the Cub Cadet P/N off the parts finder.

Kohler P/N KH-41-519-21-S

Stens website says it fits Kohler K91-K361

https://www.stens.com/460-048-ignition-coil

Although I can't find resistance values anywhere. I trust the site has it right.

And I agree with the cost does not equal quality argument. And vice versa.

This is confusing because the link in the technical thread says the value should be 4-8 ohms. Or do those readings not necessarily match?

Went out this morning and put the new coil in. Turned it over and... nothing.

Then I double checked everything, and apparently the coil doesn't do any good without the coil wire connected to the spark plug

Fired right up once everything was hooked up Spent a few hours mowing and everything went great.

As I mentioned in TwoTon's post I kept having problems shredding 1/2" belts. So after some researching I found a belt cross-reference guide and it had the belt size listed as 3/8"x81. (2nd pic) So I ordered one and it seemed to do much better.

I decided to check things over a little more closely just to see if anything was amiss with the mule drive and noticed one of the pulleys looked askew. I think that is the source of my issues, you can see in the pic how much hit tits compared to the one on the left. The 3/8" belt is thin enough it doesn't rub much, but I'm sure that's what the 1/2" belts were rubbing on. I could see wear on the 3/8" belt.

I'm going to swap out the mule drive from my 149 and see how it does. The pulleys don't have much play in them.

Here's one of mine. Looks to be a lots of slop in the right pulley bracket on the one in your picture.

Yep. Lots of slop. I checked the one on my 149 and it's much better.

I'm going to swap out the mule drives and see how that works.

Thanks for the pic!

Went out and mowed some more today.

I took my other mule drive out and tried to put it on, but I think it's bent, I had trouble lining everything up. They hit something because the front of the 149 is bent up too. I did however swap out the pulleys. You can see what the issue was from the pics. Mowed great and the belt looks great after 1.5 hrs of mowing.

I think the driveshaft may be a little bent because it seems to vibrate and rattle a lot when I let out the clutch. Looking at it thru the creeper hole while it's spinning it looks like it may be a little bit bent. I don't think it's enough to hurt anything, but it vibrates.

Whatever it is I'd look into it before you tear something up.

Vibration / runout will wear other parts quickly.

Yeah.

Dang it, why do you guys have to have so much reason and sense?? lol

I'm buttoning up the PTO rebuild on the 149 so hopefully I can use it to mow next time. I'm getting tired of working on these things in the 95 degree heat. Luckily, with said heat, the grass isn't growing very quickly and I shouldn't need to mow but a couple more times this year.

How can I check the ball bushings?

I laid a straight edge on the driveshaft and it appeared to be straight when I had it out. But I didn't remove the clutch/discs so it could be off there.

I've been thinking this over and read another thread that reference 2 ball bushings.

Are there two balls also? I only have one in the back of mine.

Nonetheless, I'm going to haul the 149 over soon and bring back the 1200 and take out the driveline. I think I'll pull the clutch, spring, plates and all off the driveshaft and check to see how straight it is.

I"ll also take off the driver and see what the bushing looks like behind it.

Any easy way to test the bushings? Just make sure they moving freely like any bearing?

Thanks again everyone for the all the input. I know this thing will be running smooth eventually, just getting a little frustrated getting there. (or perhaps my wife's frustration is rubbing off...)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
